Social Policy

The government should ensure that all Canadians have an equal opportunity to achieve success, prosperity, well-being, purpose, and happiness. This commitment to equality is crucial because the current economic, legal, political, and social systems often favour individuals with financial resources, making it harder for Canadians with lower socioeconomic status to find fulfillment.

To combat inequality, the Moderate Party of Canada aims not to provide advantages to specific groups, but rather to remove disadvantages, as this approach is more fair and equitable. The party will focus on improving the GINI coefficient, which measures income inequality [1], and will reduce the influence of socioeconomic status on life success. This will significantly quality of life for all Canadians.

The most significant factor contributing to success is the socio-economic status into which an individual is born. Those born into lower socioeconomic backgrounds or raised in adversity face more significant limitations in life opportunities. While it is perceived that race and gender create divisions in society, the most critical dividing factor to society is socioeconomic class.

Despite being ranked in the top 10 highest GDP countries in the world, many Canadians are experiencing homelessness, poverty, and food insecurity. The search for meaningful employment is becoming increasingly complex, and mental health issues are at an all-time high. Children are often not provided with optimal learning environments. Men and women encounter numerous nuanced challenges that society and the government do not adequately address.

To ensure that all Canadians have equal opportunities and a respectable quality of life, an individual’s socioeconomic status at birth should not limit their potential for success. While some organizations choose to provide advantages to certain groups over others, we believe it is better to remove disadvantages where they exist. Individuals from diverse backgrounds encounter different challenges, so a nuanced approach may be necessary.

The most significant factor influencing success is the socioeconomic status into which an individual is born. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

This disproportionately benefits those with greater wealth, regardless of their contributions to society.

Individuals with lower socioeconomic status can be exposed to harmful environments that lead to long-lasting trauma and develop counterproductive behaviours in children and adults. Poor mental health drives individuals into a vicious negative mindset that harms both themselves and society. [7] Since financial resources are needed to generate wealth, Canadians with lower socioeconomic status face reduced mobility, making it difficult to climb the economic ladder and escape poverty.

The Moderate Party of Canada believes that a lower socioeconomic status should not hinder the potential of children, teenagers, and young adults. Success must be independent of socioeconomic status to be a truly meritocratic society.

The Moderate Party of Canada is committed to making these changes a reality. We will amend all economic, social, and legislative frameworks to ensure adequate funding for social services. Our goal is to reduce the influence of socioeconomic status in determining an individual’s success in life.

The Moderate Party of Canada is dedicated to ensuring all children, teenagers, and young adults receive the best possible care, education, environment, and opportunities.

Studies highlight the detrimental effects of food insecurity and hunger on children’s health and behaviour. [8] [9] Hunger diminishes learning potential, affects health, reduces productivity, and impacts life. In Canada, no child should go hungry. The Moderate Party of Canada will mandate free lunches for all children and teenagers and work to reduce the cost of nutritious food nationwide through national initiatives.

The current education system is outdated and requires substantial remodelling. The Moderate Party of Canada envisions an up-to-date educational framework that standardizes the national curriculum to ensure young Canadians can thrive in a modern world, fostering hope and optimism for their future. We believe education is a critical social service that improves and empowers society, and it is essential to instill this mindset in Canadian culture for generations to come.

Evidence indicates that widespread myopia is linked to a normalized sedentary, indoor lifestyle. [10] This indoor-centric lifestyle leads to long-term issues related to poor posture, cardiovascular health, and overall physiology, contributing to decreased quality of life and healthcare costs. [11] [12] [13]

To address this issue, the Moderate Party of Canada will introduce alternative teaching methodologies and interactive learning environments and promote physical fitness for the benefit of all Canadians. Research has shown that poor air quality negatively impacts children’s cognitive function. [14] Recognizing this serious concern, the Moderate Party of Canada will establish a legal requirement for all educational institutions and their surrounding areas to maintain a minimum air quality standard.

The Moderate Party of Canada acknowledges that men and women face different and both genders deserve dedicated attention. To avoid the misconception that helping one neglects the other, the Moderate Party of Canada is deeply committed to understanding the root causes of issues in both men and women and identifying possible solutions.

Men consistently exhibit higher rates of suicide. [15] Men are over-represented in radicalized individuals [16] and perpetrators of all crimes. Except for sexual crime, men experience higher rates of more severe forms of victimization compared to women. [17] To benefit both genders, the Moderate Party believes that increasing funding to support at-risk boys and men is crucial in reducing crime and promoting overall success in their lives, which would ultimately benefit both genders.

In the same vein, ensuring women receive assistance based on their societal and medical needs will also benefit everyone.

In Canada, abortion is legal throughout pregnancy and is publicly funded as a medical procedure. The Moderate Party unequivocally supports abortion and aims to improve accessibility across the country.

Cancer will affect 50% of all men and 33.4% of all women. [18] We believe arch and development should focus on finding cures for the most pressing health concerns.

It is only through collective effort that we can effectively address these issues.

The Moderate Party of Canada will test a 4-day, 32-hour work week. Recent studies and experiments have shown that productivity remains stable even with reduced work hours for specific industries and jobs. [19] By maintaining a standard 8-hour work day with 3 days off, society will adjust more quickly, and Canadians’ mental health will improve as they have more time for themselves. The Moderate Party of Canada believes scheduling more time for Canadians to care for themselves will result in more productivity and better work morale.

Strategy surrounding substance abuse is insufficient, as “safe injection” sites have become unsafe and drug users continue to increase. To address this issue, the Moderate Party of Canada proposes establishing drug rehabilitation facilities outside significant communities, with the government providing transportation and room and board. This initiative will alleviate the community and create a safe and supportive environment for individuals to seek help.

Individuals using safe injection sites must first complete a mandatory rehabilitation program, which ensures their commitment to recovery. Additionally, the Moderate Party of Canada will criminalize the public use of hard drugs. Individuals convicted of drug-related offences are required to take part in a rehabilitation program for the duration of their sentence. Individuals who complete the program early will serve the remainder of their sentence in prison to ensure a fair and just process for all.

The Moderate Party of Canada is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals within our proposed drug rehabilitation system. An independent organization with clear guidelines will be entrusted with oversight and the authority to file charges to protect drug rehabilitation patients from any form of administrative abuse and to ensure they receive proper care and support.

Approximately a quarter million Canadians experience homelessness each year. [20]

We must understand that expecting those in poverty to “help” themselves is unreasonable, as socioeconomic mobility greatly depends on socioeconomic status. To address this devastating issue, the Moderate Party of Canada recognizes the importance of individualized solutions and will create jobs tailored for the homeless with room and board. This gives individuals an opportunity to be self-sufficient and help uplift themselves out of poverty.

The Moderate Party of Canada’s approach to housing affordability will also reduce homelessness and increase shelter security. To read more about our housing policy, see here.

Prolonged use of certain substances may result in irreversible cognitive damage. In addition, some are born with limited mental capacity at birth. The Moderate Party of Canada is committed to helping all Canadians improve their situation. However, we must acknowledge that some individuals are unfortunately beyond help. For individuals incapable of functioning within society, the Moderate Party of Canada believes establishing psychiatric institutions with proper oversight is necessary to ensure a safe and dignified life for these individuals. The Moderate Party of Canada is committed to this cause and will establish an independent organization with clear guidelines to oversee and press charges to protect patients from administrative abuse.

The Moderate Party of Canada disagrees with “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” (DEI) initiatives prioritizing equitable outcomes over fairness. Currently, the Canadian government awards additional points to individuals based on immutable characteristics. The Moderate Party of Canada considers this approach inappropriate. Instead of recognizing an individual’s achievements and skill sets, individuals are rewarded based on personal characteristics, which skews equity. We believe in eliminating disadvantages rather than promoting advantages to foster fairness. A government that provides preferential treatment is unacceptable, regardless of who benefits from it. Therefore, the Moderate Party of Canada will eliminate all governmental mandates that consider an individual’s group membership or specific personal characteristics.

The Moderate Party of Canada will implement a comprehensive immigration integration program to ensure successful integration for immigrants and newcomers.
